Children’s Film Festival at The Cameo

FAMILY FILM FESTIVAL OF THE NAPA VALLEY

2017 FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS For four days, the Cameo Cinema invites you and your imagination to explore new frontiers through the latest films from around the world, in addition to family-friendly workshops and events. Admission is free, registration strongly recommended.

Opening Night: West Coast Premiere: LEAP! An orphan girl dreams of becoming a ballerina and flees her rural Brittany for Paris, where she passes for someone else to become a pupil at the Grand Opera house ballet corps. Animated, features Elle Fanning and Maddie Ziegler. Q&A with Bandaloop dancers. Cameo Cinema, 1340 Main Street, St. Helena, CA 94574

Spotlight Events: Wigglebots – Everyone loves to wiggle! Engineer a motorized contraption powered by your imagination. Created and run by Napa Valley College Robotics Club. Location: Boys & Girls Club, 1420 Tainter Street (St. Helena) Great Lego Robot Car Race – We combine simple science and engineering to make an incredible STEM activity and then everyone will join the Great Lego Balloon Car Race! Created and run by Napa Valley College Robotics Club. Location: Boys & Girls Club, 1420 Tainter Street (St. Helena)

Pixelation and Foley Workshop – An animation technique, pixelation allows you to magically float, fly around a room, disappear and reappear in a different location, drive an invisible car, or almost anything else you can imagine! Created and run by Berkeley College Film Students. Location: Odd Fellows Hall, 1352 Main Street, (St. Helena)

STARGAZING PARTY – Gaze at Jupiter with its four Galilean moons. The moon will be at its closest approach to earth, creating what we call a Super New Moon for our Star Party. The presentation and telescopes are courtesy of the Robert Ferguson Observatory, along with members of the CAAPS chapter at Napa Valley College. Location: Napa Valley Vintners, 1475 Library Lane, (St Helena)

CENTERPIECE EVENT – “Journey to the Stars” with Astronaut José M. Hernández, recipient of the 2016 National Hispanic Hero Award, presented by the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute. His parents were migrant farmworkers in California who encouraged José to excel academically. This led him to an engineering degree and ultimately to NASA. Hernández was assigned to the crew of Space Shuttle mission STS-128 Discovery (August 28 to September 11, 2009) was the 128th Shuttle mission and the 30th mission to the International Space Station. The STS-128 crew conducted three spacewalks. Location: Cameo Cinema, 1340 Main Street (St. Helena)

8th Annual Student Film Competition and Red Carpet showcases local talent and supports the next generation of filmmakers! CLOSING DAY – Enjoy a free Mongolian picnic lunch before a fan-favorite, The Eagle Huntress. Carole Poole will be brining Maddie, her red-tailed hawk. The festival will close with a Sundance and Napa Valley Film Festival audience favorite, Burn Your Maps, starring the acclaimed young actor, Jacob Trembly (Room).
